A story starts with a brief
When you create a Velvet story, the premise, character details, selected trope, narrator voice and heat ceiling provide a brief for the next chapter. The app sends the prompt, character details and boundary settings to its servers, which pass them to AI providers to generate text. The result is a chapter shaped by your choices, not a fixed book waiting behind a button.
Generation happens chapter by chapter
You can ask Velvet to continue a story with another chapter. That continuation is a new generation, which can use the story's earlier context but may still omit or alter details. A cliffhanger can create a natural pause between chapters, but the model does not guarantee a particular plot turn or ending. Chapter generation can take a few minutes; the result is not instantaneous like loading a stored page.
Your settings are part of the request
The heat ceiling and boundaries help guide what the model is asked to write. Velvet's heat range runs from 1 to 5, and new readers start at 3. You can change the ceiling or boundary choices at any time. A free-text avoid list is sent with each generation request, while heat and boundary choices themselves are stored on your device. These controls steer the result; they are not a guarantee that every line will be exactly as expected.
AI output is variable, not exclusive
Language models can produce inaccurate, repetitive or unexpected text. Similar prompts may also produce similar passages, so a generated story is not guaranteed to be unique to you. This is why it helps to review a chapter before continuing and to adjust your choices if the result moves away from the kind of story you want. The Terms of Service describe these limits plainly.
Privacy depends on what is sent and what you publish
Your story prompts, character details and generation settings go to Velvet's servers and AI providers to create the story. Stories stay private to your account unless you choose to publish them. Avoid putting identifying details in a prompt unless you are comfortable sending them for generation. The privacy policy explains the data flow, and the content rules explain the limits that apply to every story.
That is the practical model: give Velvet a brief, review the chapter it generates, then decide whether to continue, adjust or stop.
